On Saturday, January 14th, a small group at the It’s My Wedding Bridal Fair had a very special breakfast with the one and only Monte Durham from TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress! In the weeks leading up the exciting IMW 2017 weekend held at the Abbotsford Tradex, It’s My Wedding teamed up with Daily Hive Vancouver to launch a contest for a one lucky winner to have a private breakfast with Monte.

Our wonderfully sweet winner, and blushing bride-to-be we must add, was Ranjit. Together with her soon to be husband Gary, the pair sat down with Monte Durham and Heidi Tobler, It’s My Wedding Show Producer and owner of Everything But the Groom Bridal Boutique. Together the group sat for just shy of an hour and discussed fashion, weddings, Monte’s southern roots, and of course Ranjit and Gary’s upcoming nuptials. There may have been some photos taken as well!

Breakfast was served by the amazingly talented team at Fork and Knife Catering. The main course was mouth-watering Potato, Spinach and Roasted Red Pepper Frittata. Not only was the food itself wonderful, the service was spectacular. Fork and Knife Catering, known for its unique Private Chef services, pulled out all the stops. Other than the buzz on the tradeshow floor that could be lightly heard in the background, there was no way to differentiate between being in a private room at the Abbotsford Tradex or at a full service restaurant.

After the breakfast, Ranjit and Gary headed downstairs to the Everything But the Groom onsite boutique where they had a special consultation with Monte. It was a spectacular morning and a perfect beginning to a great weekend at IMW 2017!

So you found the perfect wedding gown and it cost a pretty penny. But  low and behold it’s 2 sizes too big in the bust, a little tight in the hips, and a few inches too long. This calls for an alteration appointment. We asked the girls at Everything But the Groom Bridal Boutique for their best tips and advice for bridal gown alterations to help you with this sometimes nerve racking task.

  • Make sure you bring the exact undergarments and shoes to each and every fitting
  • Don’t start your alterations too early, it only matters that your dress fits you the day of the wedding, not 3 months before (about 6-8 weeks is ideal)
  • Let the seamstress know if you are still dieting/working out/cleansing etc so that the 2 of you can work together to get the best fit
  • Be prepared for multiple fittings, most bridal gowns require between 3-6 fittings, more if you are doing major reconstruction to a gown
  • Make sure you budget for alterations, about $300-$600 for most bridal gowns, you’ve spent all this money on this beautiful gown, let’s make sure it fits to perfection
  • If you are adding straps/sleeves make sure that extra fabric/beading is ordered in a timely manner
  • Communication is key, if you don’t like something or the fit doesn’t feel good, speak up, only you know how the dress feels on your body

Following these easy steps will help to ensure your dream dress is perfect on your wedding day!
